+Race Details

The race begins at First Surf beach with a 400m surf swim. Swimmers are then to head up the stairs to the transition area and complete a 4.4km run around the township of Cape Paterson.

  • The Cape Aquathon race start time is at 10am, 21st January 2024
  • Registration from 8am to 9:30am
  • Pre-Race meeting 9:45am at clubhouse
  • Results and presentations will commence 90 minutes after race finish

  • At Cape Paterson Surf Life Saving Clubhouse on the day of the event
    • 8:00am to 9:30am
  • Receive your timing bracelet, coloured swim cap (colour depending on category), and race pack, which includes your Cape Aquathon t-shirt.

+Rules and Regulations

  1. In an emergency during the swim leg, a swimmer will raise an arm overhead and call for or seek assistance from water safety personnel (Cape Paterson SLSC lifesavers). Swimmers can accept flotation assistance without retiring from the event. Swimmers cannot receive propulsion assistance.
  2. Swimmers, who require assistance via the Inflatable Rescue Boats (IRBs), will be returned to shore and automatically retire from the race.
  3. Swimmers must be 14 years or older on the day of the event to compete.
  4. Swimmers may use any stroke to propel themselves and may tread water or float.
  5. Swimmers must start in the wave corresponding with their cap colour as given to them at registration.
  6. A swimmer must be wearing the approved swim cap given to them at registration to start their swim. The swim cap can be removed once at the transition area.
  7. Participants must be wearing the transponder (timing bracelet) given to them at registration at all times during the swim and run.
  8. A swimmer shall not wear artificial propulsion devices of any kind including, but not limited to, fins/flippers, paddles, floatation devices or buoyancy suits of any kind. Wetsuits are permitted.
  9. There is a time limit of 15 minutes to complete the swim. Swimmers will be asked to withdraw from the swim after this time.
  10. No form of locomotion other than running or walking is allowed during the run leg.
  11. No individual support vehicles or escort runners are allowed on the course.
  12. Runners are required to follow the directions of Race Officials.
  13. Runners must not wear headphones or any device that restricts hearing while competing.
  14. Race Officials shall have the authority to disqualify any competitor.
  15. Medical staff shall have the ultimate and final authority to remove a competitor from the race if the competitor is judged to be physically incapable of continuing the race without risk of serious injury.
  16. Good sportsmanlike conduct will be demanded of all competitors.
  17. If you withdraw from the race you must notify a Race Official.
  18. Only those participants who have trained and feel competent to complete the event should enter the event.
  19. Each competitor will be issued with a transponder (timing bracelet) which they will be required to wear at all times during the race. It is the responsibility of competitors to ensure the transponders are securely fastened to them prior to entering and exiting the water. Non-returned or lost transponders will incur a $100 replacement charge.
